Directions to Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve
- Depart Cape Town International Airport via the N2.
- Turn left at the Vanguard Drive turn off (cross over the bridge) and turn right at the second set of traffic lights (into Vanguard Drive).
- Pass the Grand West Casino, still remaining on Vanguard Drive and then take the turn off for the N7 to Malmesbury.
- Continue past Malmesbury, towards Moorreesburg, Piketburg and Citrusdal to enter the Olifants River Valley (route takes approx 2 hrs.
- We recommend that you stop at Kardoesie (Farm Style Restaurant) for a light lunch,
- This is just before you reach Citrusdal on the right hand side of the Main Road.
- Pass the Clanwilliam Dam (located on the right hand side of the road) and turn right onto the R364 to Lamberts Bay / Clanwilliam.
- At the T-Junction, turn right to Clanwilliam.
- When entering the town, a petrol station is located on the left hand side of road.
- NB: Fill up if petrol is required and please call the lodge on 0027 (0)27 482 8200 as there is no mobile reception after this point.
- This will enable the lodge to anticipate your time of arrival.
- From Clanwilliam to the lodge gate is approximately 40km.
- Continue straight on the R364 towards Wupperthal and Calvinia and cross a bridge.
- Follow this tarred road for approx 25km, pass ‘Louis Leipoldt’s Grave’ and over the Pakhuis Pass.
- Cross a low bridge over the Brandewyns River. Continue past a sign on the left hand side to ‘Traveller’s Rest’.
- After travelling for 800m, the Bushmans Kloof gate will be on your right hand side.
- Turn right at the Bushmans Kloof gate (recommended speed in the reserve – 40km per hour).
- Continue straight, crossing a small bridge below the dam wall and follow the signs to the lodge.
- Continue towards the lodge and on arrival please park your car next to the big Blue Gum trees and the building marked ‘Reception’

- Depart Hermanus on the R43 (Main Road) travelling towards Kleinmond and Cape Town.
- Continue on the R43 past the Kleinmond turn off on the left, and carry on to the N2.
- Take the N2 towards Cape Town and over Sir Lowry’s Pass. As you approach Somerset West take the R44 turnoff towards Stellenbosch.
- Travel on the R44 through Stellenbosch and take the R304 turn off towards Malmesbury / Botterberg.
- Continue on the R44 over the N1 towards the N7 / Malmesbury and turn right at the N7 turn off.

- From Paternoster, take the main road (R399) to Vredenburg.
- From there take the R399 to Velddrif and continue past the towns of Sauer and Witwater.
- Turn left onto the N7 towards Piketberg and Citrusdal to enter the Olifants River Valley (route takes approximately two hours).
- Pass the Clanwilliam dam (located on the right hand side of the road) and turn right onto the R364 to Lamberts Bay/Clanwilliam.
- At the T-junction, turn right to Clanwilliam.
- When entering the town, a petrol station is located on the left hand side of the road.
- NB: fill up if petrol is required and reduce tyre pressure. Please ensure that you re-inflate your tyres on the way back.

- Continue straight on the R364 towards Wupperthal and Calvinia and cross a bridge to reach a gravel road.
- Continue on the gravel road for about 34kms, over the Pakhuis Pass, past "Louis Leipoldt's grave"
- Cross a low bridge over the Brandewyns River.
- Continue past a sign on the left hand side to "Travellers Rest - JJL Strauss"
- After travelling for 800m, the Bushmans Kloof gate will be on your right hand side.
- Turn right at the Bushmans Kloof gate (recommended speed in the reserve – 40km per hour).
- Continue straight, crossing a small bridge below the dam wall and follow the signs to the lodge.
- Continue towards the lodge and on arrival please park your car next to the big Blue Gum trees and the building marked ‘Reception’
